Rev. Vance E. Haywood, Jr.
He, Him
Senior Pastor
Rev. Vance E. Haywood, Jr. became the fifth pastor of St. John’s MCC in February 2018. Vance (no titles) is his preferred introduction. Vance was affiliated with the Church of God in his childhood through the age of 20. He stepped away from “the Church,” unable to reconcile whom he knew himself to be with the teaching about God being presented by others. Vance joined the Metropolitan Community Church movement in 2008 after experiencing God anew a few years earlier during a drag performance of a traditional gospel song by Taj Mahal (RIP) at Legends Night Club.
If you ask Vance if he is religious, his answer will be an adamant “NO! - Religion has been and is still a source of great pain and suffering. Jesus came to overturn harmful religious practices and simply offer life and love to hurting people in a hurting world. I see it as my call to do the same as best I can with God’s help.”

Rev. Paully Adams
He, Him
Worship Pastor
By day, Pastor Paully teaches mathematics in the public schools, but otherwise, look for him singing, abstract painting, playing Dungeons and Dragons with his college and seminary friends, and being with nature.
Pastor Paully tells us that "love is at the heart of this ministry. We want to create the best worship experience because we love God and love those who join us to worship God (whether online on various platforms, on TV or in person), and share the gifts we have been given."

SJMCC AUDIO VISUAL TEAM
Deep in the back of the Sanctuary at St. John’s MCC there’s a shadowy room that few dare to enter. It’s where all the technical magic happens to take our in-person worship experience and spread it throughout the world on Facebook and YouTube each week.
It takes at least four people working simultaneously to do that, and we have several people who volunteer on the team.
On the Sunday in the above photos…
• Mark Godette runs the computer that drives the slides that show on the screen, the song lyrics on the livestream, and all prerecorded video
and audio that we use.
• Mike Gauss constantly monitors the sound levels and serves as the Team Leader and our Technical Director.
• Jay Cannady-Kelderman works a complicated program that switches the video input from the many different sources to produce the final
video. He also stores each worship service for future use and publishes the livestream feeds. And after Worship each week, he uploads the
audio of just the sermon to our Soundcloud podcast channel.
• Finally, Steve Davis runs the three movable cameras in the room … focusing on the speaker or point of interest so you’ll get the best view.
Other volunteers who are in our serving rotation include Joyce Robinson, Juanice Robinson, Al Williams, Billy Weaver, and Jim Manchester.
We would like to add to the Team! We need someone who can work outside the booth to help us add the actual social media comments that come from our Digital Campus to our livestream feed and to the screen at the front of the Sanctuary. We’d like to have a Worship Stage Manager who helps people move into position just in time for their part in worship. And we need a Tech Director who keeps an eye on everything, so Mike doesn’t have to do double duty each week. If you can help, please get in touch with Mike Gauss (MikeG@StJohnsMCC.org).
